Can I bring an attorney to a mediation?
In Florida, you are not required to have an attorney represent you during a mediation or during the pendency of the case; however, you do have a right to retain an attorney and have them present with you during your mediation. Having a knowledgeable family law attorney to advise you at mediation can save you a lot of heartache in the future if you are not familiar with the laws in Florida and you enter an agreement in which you are not happy with in the future. Once it is signed and a final hearing held, it is very difficult to change the agreement and it can only be changed as to modification of child support and custody, visitation and timesharing, alimony and not as to division of assets and debt. All Family Law Group, P.A. offers a free consultation to discuss this as well as most any family law matter.
