Can I be ordered into mediation?
It is typical that when you are proceeding with a case in Florida that you would be required in some counties to go to a mediation. Hillsborough County requires mediation prior to any temporary hearing or trial, if the parties cannot agree outside of mediation. It would be court ordered by the judge and you would be found in contempt of the order by the court if you did not comply. Unfortunately, even if you do not think you will be able to settle the case, you are still required to attend one. Also, mediation can be accomplished by telephone or webcam if it is not convenient for you to attend in person.
